Best Wedding Venues Near Madrid, Spain (2026 Guide)
Planning an elopement or intimate wedding near Madrid? As a local wedding photographer, I've shot at dozens of venues across the region. Here's what I know.
Why get married near Madrid?
Madrid and its surrounding region — Castilla — offer an extraordinary variety of settings for weddings and elopements. Within two hours of the city you can have rolling wheat fields, ancient castles, medieval walled towns, forested mountains and sun-baked plains. The light here is unlike anywhere else in Europe: golden, warm, and especially magical in the late afternoon.
For international couples, the central location is also practical: Madrid Barajas airport has excellent connections from the US, UK, Europe and Latin America.
Toledo: the dream elopement location
Toledo, just 45 minutes from Madrid by high-speed train, is one of the most stunning cities in Spain. Its UNESCO World Heritage historic centre sits on a hill surrounded by the Tagus river, with narrow stone streets, a massive Gothic cathedral and panoramic views in every direction.
For intimate elopements and small weddings, Toledo is hard to beat. The city's historic buildings and viewpoints provide a natural backdrop that needs no decoration. I photograph couples here regularly and it never gets old.
Country fincas near Madrid
The Madrid region is home to hundreds of rural fincas (country estates) that host weddings. They typically offer indoor and outdoor ceremony spaces, catering and accommodation. Popular areas include:
- Sierra de Madrid (La Pedriza, Guadarrama): forest and mountain settings, cooler in summer
- Alcalá de Henares / Guadalajara corridor: rolling countryside, more affordable venues
- Toledo province: olive groves, medieval farmhouses, dramatic light
- Segovia: stunning Roman aqueduct, castle views, cooler mountain air
Historic venues and palaces
If you want something grand, the Madrid region has palaces, historic haciendas and monastery hotels that do weddings. These tend to be the most expensive option but create incredible photos — stone walls, vaulted ceilings, formal gardens.
Outdoor ceremonies and elopements
Spain's climate makes outdoor ceremonies possible for most of the year. Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–November) are the sweet spots: warm, green and with beautiful light. Summer weddings can be beautiful but hot — ceremonies are typically held in the late evening to avoid the peak heat.
For elopements, you don't need a venue at all. Some of my favourite sessions have been in the middle of a lavender field, on a Roman bridge in Toledo, or at sunset in the Madrid mountains. Just you, me, and the light.
